In the seventies the Japanese were getting a toehold in the UK market. It took a while for UK buyers to acclimatise to the slightly chintzy styling of many Nippon built cars but there was no denying that many Toyotas and Datsuns were a more reliable buy than homegrown cars that often suffered lousy build quality.
