In the seventies Jaguar decided to dip their toe back in the frantic world of motor racing. They decided to radically soup-up their 5.3 V12 XJ coupe and this was the result. Reliability blighted many of its races though usually by the time they broke something they had shown their rivals in the European Touring Car championships a clean pair of heals. BMWs 3.0CSL usually picked up the race wins but it was the Jag that usually was fastest - while it lasted
