In the late 1930s Alfa Romeo (operating under Scuderia Ferrari) were getting a right trouncing by the silver arrows. In a bid to come to terms with the German elite they constructed the Bimotore which had 2 engines. Virtually undriveable and with an unhealthy appetite for tyre treads its competition life was brief even when wrestled by Nuvolari
